Optimist Honor Retiring Teachers
The Optimist Club honored the Sauk Prairie School District teacher retirees. Superintendent Cliff Thompson shared that the retirees chose, instead of plaques, to give a donation to the Sauk Prairie Area Food Pantry Annex program. Thompson introduced each retiree, gave their area of teaching and years of service both to the SPSD and to the State of Wisconsin. Barb Krause (unable to attend), was an art teacher serving 23 years in the district with a total of 29 years in Wisconsin. Vicki Blomberg, a SPHS general sciences teacher, served 27.5 years in the district, 29 in Wisconsin and 39 total years in education. Lynn Evarts, Library Services, most recently Lead Librarian in the district, has served 33 years in the district and in Wisconsin. Chuck Fiene, English instructor at SPHS, served 28 years in Sauk Prairie and 32 in Wisconsin. Doug Drabenstadt, secondary special education, 20 years at Sauk Prairie and 23 in Wisconsin. Julie Pings, elementary teacher at Black and Tower Rock has been a teacher in those two schools and in Wisconsin for a total of 38 years while Kathie Thompson, elementary teacher at Merrimac Community Charter School and in Wisconsin, has seen service for a total of 32 years. Cindy Thompson has been an elementary teacher at Merrimac (3 yrs.) and at Spruce Street and now Bridges Elementary(22) for 25 years in district with 36.5 years in Wisconsin and 38.5 years in education. The educators were congratulated for their service to students, families and the community.
The Optimist Club meets every Wednesday at the Blue Spoon Cafe' in Prairie du Sac. The first Wednesday of the month the meeting is at noon; the remaining Wednesdays of the month the meeting is at 7 am. All are welcome. Check us out on Facebook!
